Puffins

A visit to the Farne islands was one of the main targets of our trip around the United Kingdom. In these islands you can find a colony of Atlantic puffins.

The Puffins (Atlantic puffin) are abirds that live most of the time on the ocean, but on breeding season they come to the coast. The season start around April and lasts until begging of August. Our visit was on July 29th and we still found a good number of them.

To reach the island you should take a boat that sails from Seahouses to the island.
Our boat operator was Farne Islands. On the way to the islands you can see some seals, so one cannot get bored.

We had bad luck because we wake up with a very foggy day so our boat was delayed a couple of times. Finally the fog get lighter and we could go to the islands. As we departed very late we could only visit one island instead of the two islands of the initial plan.

In spite of the fog we got some good images. The flying puffin was the most difficult one, the fog and the flying speed was a big issue to get a good focus on the bird.

All the pictures were taken using Canon 100-400 and Canon 20D.
